Have you already started slimming down in 2014?
If you haven’t, that’s fine. But if you have, you’re definitely not alone. In fact, our weight and hormones normally (and naturally) fluctuate over the course of the year. Researchers aren’t totally sure why, but they know it happens.
A 1984 article in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported on research done on 29 men and women who were followed closely for a full year. The researchers found that their “fasting glucose and insulin were higher in the fall than in the spring.” They also observed “Significant differences by season… for all four hormones [studied].”
Why might this happen? Perhaps our bodies evolved to adjust to the harvest season. Or maybe we put on weight over the winter to protect ourselves against the cold.
It’s all very fascinating stuff. However, whether need to let go of weight or not, you know you have a lot more work to do to rejuvenate your body, mind, and soul. You want to make this summer the best you’ve had in years (and, perhaps, flaunt your body on a tropical beach somewhere – who knows!).
Unfortunately, great health does not happen by accident.
The ultimate “tonic” is a good education. You need to know what methods of detox really work (and don’t work). Once you know how the body works – and how your body works, in particular – nothing can stop you from achieving the joy, energy, and confidence that is your birthright.
