Tip of the Week:
Magnesium Inside and Out for Optimal Health!

Every cell in the body needs magnesium in some way, and it is vital for bone, tooth, muscle, and joint health as well as for optimal sleep and stress reduction. Yet, many people today are deficient in this important mineral.

In addition to getting magnesium from your diet, you can use magnesium oil to rub on your skin.

My No Excuse Approach to Staying Healthy

Hi Health-Seeker,

I just returned home from the last leg of my almost 3 weeks of travel.  I have only been home 3 days since September 26. During that time I was on 9 flights, rented 4 different cars and slept in 8 different beds.

So, when people tell me that now is not a good time to stick with or start a health transformation program, because they will be traveling, and it will be too hard, it makes me chuckle.

Throughout my recent travel, I have managed to eat well, exercise, sleep and keep up my stress management activities, and have a lot of fun.

It’s a myth that getting healthy takes a lot of time and can only be done if you have the luxury of a stay at home lifestyle. It’s all a matter of commitment. It’s a matter of creating a powerful enough “why?” for yourself.  I’ve seen it over and over again with my patients and students.

Sometimes it’s the busiest ones who make the time to take care of themselves and make a commitment to following through.  And what they realize is that following through gives them more time rather than taking time away.

Excuses are very easy to make. We all do it.  It’s only human. I found myself making excuses for not exercising when  I broke my arm, when the truth is I could have exercised the rest of my body.

I have a few new resources to share with you over the next couple of days to inspire you to make your health a priority and avoid making excuses. I also have a few new insights to share about how to stay healthy on the road and will share this with you on our radio show this Thursday.

The first resource is a video showing how a friend and colleague, Doc David, set up to grow his own herbs and participate in the  B4 Be Gone program on his boat.  It’s very tight quarters, and it’s inspiring to watch.

Watch your inbox for  a couple of new travel inspired recipes, recently created travel tips  and some ideas from others who’ve successfully implemented health supportive behaviors while traveling, even in Alaska in a tiny hotel room.

Now is the time to put yourself first, Health-Seeker!

If you haven’t already registered for B4 Be Gone, you can still join the hundreds of others who will be getting their brains, energy, and bellies in shape for the upcoming holidays. Registration closes on October 24. The sooner you get started, the sooner you’ll see your body and life transform.

Our first official module call is next week. The recipe guide containing over 250 mouthwatering low glycemic, plant based, gluten free recipes (including guilt free deserts) plus the 30 day menu planner are unveiled on October 25. You will be guided step by step to getting your body in balance, including 10 live coaching calls with me to get all your questions answered.

One last bit of good news! I just came back from the orthopedist and I get to stop wearing my bionic arm brace and go back to almost normal activities.  I am cleared to lift up to 20 pounds, and I am allowed to run. Yeah!  But, I am not allowed to do pushups or other body weight exercises yet.  I return for the final checkup in 4 weeks and by then, I should  be fully functioning again!

While I love travel, I am happy to be home.  I was craving my Vitamix and the wonderful blended greens my husband and I create.

Big Hugs and lots of Appreciation,

5 Favorite Multi-Purpose Herbs to Never Leave Home Without

People always ask me what herbs I take, or what foods I eat to stay so healthy.

It’s hard to narrow down to just a handful as there are so many.
Still, If I had to pick my top 5, they

would be:Herbs and spices

3. oregano
4. cordyceps
5. ashwaganda
1. ginger
2. kelp

With these 5 in hand, you can support just about every part of your body.

Whenever I travel, I take along little zip lock bags of these plus a few other herbs.  I also take along a mason jar and make a drink each day containing herbs, greens powder and protein powder.  I also take along chia seeds, because they are so versatile and pack a nutrition punch.Continue Reading..

lodine – The Overlooked Nutrient

I’ve been reading a book called “The Iodine Crisis”, by Lynne Farrow and it’s very informative.  I know that there is currently a lot of fear and misinformation floating around.

At the Restorative Medicine Conference, which I attended the first weekend of October, there was a session about iodophobia taught by Dr. David Brownstein, author of “Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can’t Live Without It”.  I missed the session because there was another one at the same time with Dr. Jonathan Wright that I also wanted to hear.  I ordered the recordings, so I will be able to catch Dr. Brownstein on the replay.

Last year there was a talk about iodophobia as well, taught by a different doctor.

There is fear afloat about using iodine in Hashimoto’s patients. In reality, iodine is an essential element, one in short supply in our lands. There are many people walking around with iodine deficiency.

I have been doing a lot of iodine load tests recently.  To learn more about the test and order one for your clients, contact: Hakala Labshttp://www.hakalalabs.com. If the client is willing to spring for an extra $80, order the halides load test, and see what’s happening with the competing elements: chlorine, bromine and fluoride.

Last but not least, check out a resource recommended in “The Iodine Crisis” book for information about iodine: http://iodineresearch.com/

Iodine is too important a nutrient to overlook.

  Arame Carrot Salad

Arame is rich in essential nutrients including calcium, iron, zinc, manganese, folate, vitamins A & K, and iodine. It has a mild, but distinctively sweet flavor that blends perfectly well with shredded raw veggies creating a salad that is not only nutritious but delicious!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup arame sea vegetable
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons grated ginger
  • 1 bunch basil, chopped
  • 1 bunch cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium lime, juiced
  • 1 medium lemon, juiced
  • 1/4 cup water, from soaking arame
  • 1 large or 2 small cucumbers, very thinly sliced
  • 1 cup carrot, shredded (omit if they spike your blood sugar or replace with daikon)
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Directions:

  1. Soak arame for at least 10 minutes in enough water to cover, until it softens.
  2. Combine garlic, ginger, basil and cilantro.
  3. Juice lemon and lime.
  4. Drain arame.
  5. Combine lemon and lime juice with chopped garlic, ginger, cilantro and basil, sesame oil and enough soak water from the arame to make a salad dressing consistency.
  6. Toss dressing over arame and shredded carrots. Serve as a side salad or over a bed of lettuce.

This recipe is from Dr. Ritamarie’s upcoming program B4 Be Gone starting on October 24, 2013.
