Tip of the Week:
Take time for self care even during the holidays

It’s easy to get caught up in holiday shopping, baking, travelling and wrapping and let your exercise slip, skip the yoga class, and scrimp on sleep.

Remember that the best gift you can give yourself AND those you love is the gift of self care.

Just remember, the better you care for YOU, the more you have to give to THEM.

 Home for the Holidays

Hi Health-Seeker,

It’s really hard to believe it’s almost Christmas and the start of a brand new year.  This one has seemed to fly by!

Travel has seemed to be the theme of my year.  Since June, I’ve been away at least a week a month, and over the last month, it seems like I’ve been away more than home.

I just returned home from California – again!  Since the end of September, I visited the San Fransisco Bay area 3 times, plus San Diego, Costa Mesa, Phoenix, Florida, North Carolina and Massachusetts.  This time I was in Costa Mesa and Santa Cruz!  I arrived home on Thursday and am leaving again for Chicago on Saturday to celebrate my husband’s aunt’s 100th birthday

Happy Birthday Aunt Eleanor!

It’s a weekend to celebrate.  My college son Eric will fly from warm Florida and we will be reunited as a family once again!  He’s been gone since early August!

I am so grateful for the opportunity to be together as a family for 3 weeks!  Then he is off on a short semester abroad.  His school offers a mini semester in January, where the kids get to choose one course for intensive study.  He chose Sacred Byzantium, and he gets to visit Athens, Istanbul, Tbilisi, Georgia, Kiev Ukraine and a few other nearby cities as they tour churches, museums and other cultural spots to study.

I am happy to be home for the holidays and through mid January, with my first ever LIVE event January 10-12 being the highlight of the month.

I am so excited to gather together holistic health practitioners from around the world to learn about an emerging branch of health care called Nutritional Endocrinology.

Throughout the event I will be sharing my strategies and protocols for assessing and correcting hormone imbalances –  systems it’s taken me decades to develop.

If you are a practitioner or determined to become one, learn more here:

Enjoy all the inspiring articles, recipes, videos and tips in this week’s newsletter!

And be sure to take time for self care throughout the holiday season.

With so much love and appreciation,

Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo

7 Strategies to Kick Your Fat Burning Hormones into High Gear During the Holidays

During this time of the year, a literal “full plate” of holidays comes around, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s –  all holidays heavily focused around food. Many people concede that they just may need to wear bigger pants, with a stretchy waistline to avoid pinching as their belly fat inevitably increases.

But before you break out those “big stretchy” pants, you might be pleased to know that you can learn to make friends with two powerhouse hormones called leptin and ghrelin and the intensely positive effects they can have on fat burning WHEN you understand how to make them work for you.

Read on for 7 strategies to get your fat burning furnace going, and keep it going…even during the holidays.

I’ll start by going over the two powerhouse fat burning hormones that kick your metabolism into high gear, IF you activate them properly. Work against them, and the exact opposite happens. Continue Reading..

Mistletoe – More than Just a Kissing Herb

Mistletoe has been traditionally hung from the ceiling at Christmas time, and if you are caught underneath it with someone, you are supposed to kiss.

However, Mistletoe is also a very powerful herb for the endocrine system.

While the beautiful red berries are poisonous, the leaves make a calming tonic that has a systemic action on the glandular system.  It aids in proper pancreas function, supports female hormones in both pre and post menopause, is used to treat problems with heavy menstrual bleeding, reduces hot flashes  and  is calming to the nerves.

According to Austrian herbalist Maria Treben, two  cups of mistletoe leaf tea taken daily can reverse diabetes in 6 months.

Mistletoe is said to be effective in the treatment of high blood pressure, circulation problems, nose bleeds, palpitations and difficulty breathing.

Researchers at Seoul National University in Korea investigated the anti-angiogenic effect of mistletoe, an immune modulator, on women with endometriosis and found it to have good treatment potential for endometriosis.

So the next time you are caught in a kiss under the Mistletoe, remember all its uses in balancing hormones and circulation and smile for more than one reason.

And for more novel ideas for balancing hormones using herbs, foods, nutrients and emotions, join me in January for my first S.H.I.N.E. Conference, (Scientific and Holistic Investigation fo Nutritional Endocrinology).  You’ll walk away with checklists, protocols and tons of inspiration for becoming a super star health practitioner who gets results with difficult clients.
