Mother’s Day: A Bittersweet Event

By Ritamarie Loscalzo

Pregnant woman with man and small plantAnother Mother’s Day has come and gone, and with it brings feelings that are both bitter and sweet.  These are very personal, but I want to explain them to help those of you that might have had – or are going through – similar experiences.

  • Sweet – I am so grateful for my two amazing boys, Eric and Kevin.  They add so much sweetness to my life, and I’m very excited that Eric will be home from college this Thursday for the summer.
  • Bitter – I miss my mom, Mary, and my nana, Rita.  My name was a gift from the two of them.  My mom left this world back in 1991, 23 years ago, and nana left us in 1981.  Neither of them got to meet Eric or Kevin.  I wish I could still hug them and let them know how much I appreciate all they have given me.
  • Bitter/Sweet – I recall many Mother’s Days when I was sad because I still was not a mother.  I had many miscarriages over an eight year period, and the pain and emptiness was real, raw, and ever-present.  I still feel I missed out on the sweetness that comes from carrying and delivering my own beautiful babies.  However, I am filled with gratitude that my children were able to find their way to me through another, which completely overshadows the loss of that one experience.

Still, had I known then what I know now, perhaps things would be different.

The Genomic Project led to the discovery that people with MTHFR gene issues (SNPs) are prone to recurrent miscarriages.  I have a double MTHFR SNP, and so does my husband.

I also know now how important thyroid health and avoidance of gluten are to a healthy pregnancy.  Although I was eating well during those many years of attempting to get – and stay – pregnant, I was including sprouted kamut and spelt, which I now know are sources of gluten.

Plus, I didn’t know enough about thyroid health back then to determine if I had one of the many types of thyroid imbalances that we currently know about.  I’m so happy to be able to help my clients and patients to correct that now to better their lives.

So, it will probably be no surprise to you then why I am excited to be part of Sean Croxton’s Thyroid Sessions free online event.

Infertility treatments abound, yet rarely does the doctor check the patient for thyroid problems.

The thyroid is a HUGE part of the fertility puzzle.

Register HERE NOW for The Thyroid Sessions, and hear many informative and inspiring interviews.

My interview on The Importance of Blood Sugar Balance for Thyroid Health airs this coming Wednesday and Thursday, May 14 and 15.

You can access all the interviews you missed and get LIFETIME access to all 24 Thyroid Sessions, including 600-plus pages of transcripts, 2 HD cooking videos with recipe guide, and 10 incredible bonus items, when you order the Digital Access Pass.

I know not everyone will be able to participate in the live event, but don’t let that stop you from registering.  These interviews will be available as replays for a limited time after they air, but you have to register to get access.

I hope you had a happy Mother’s Day, either with your mom, grandma, children, and all those alive who have given you the gift of life.  I also hope you had the opportunity to honor those who have gone before that have touched your life.
